From the Founder: Dr E. Faye Williams, Esq.
The Dick Gregory Society.
Mr. Gregory was my best friend for many years.
We protested wrongs together all over the world. As you may know, he was known for helping so many people with natural health care and the importance of drinking adequate water each day, fighting for civil and human rights, working with Native Americans to uphold their rights, recognizing animal rights and of course, he was always willing to help us find something to be grateful for and something about which we could laugh and relieve some of the tensions of our day.
In remembrance of my good friend, I organized The Dick Gregory Society, and began a radio program on WPFW-FM 89.3 in remembrance of Dr. Gregory. Shortly after he made his transition, I also wrote a book about him called "Wake Up and Stay Woke" that includes a discussion of many of the things he said and did. I have worked with his son, Dr. Christian Gregory, to work on projects in memory of his Dad who meant so much to so many people.
Just recently, Dr. Gregory edited a book entitled "The Essential Dick Gregory." I served on the Research and Editorial Team, and together Dr. Gregory and I regularly work on projects in remembrance of Dick Gregory. We invite you to become a member of the team that we call "Dick Gregory Disciples." You can do that by donating to our work and/ or by signing up and helping us to carry on the kind of work that made Dick Gregory one of the greatest!

“Throughout his life, celebrities, politicians and statesmen alike from the Kennedy family to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Marlon Brando sought Dick Gregory’s friendship, wisdom and counsel.

Civil & Human Rights and Social Justice
Dick Gregory was involved in the civil and human rights movement around the world. He was best known for active involvement in helping to stop bigotry against Black people in our country, but he worked for the rights of Native Americans and others who called on him from anywhere in the world. For a long time, he gave up his comedy to work in the Civil Rights Movement along with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and others. Like others, he was beaten and jailed for picketing against bigotry, the death penalty and racist police violence against Black men in particular.
He was also known for strongly supporting women's rights, voting rights and animal rights. He bitterly opposed the Vietnam War. He spoke on numerous college campuses and influenced many people to become activists.
